At the core of the festival was a central question:

What does it mean to transform — a body, a garment, a story, a community?

Through performances, exhibitions, installations, workshops and participatory actions, the festival explored transformation as both an artistic process and a collective social experience.

SYN.Tropia – A Landmark Performance in Athens

A highlight of the programme was the Portuguese production SYN.Tropia, created by Yola Pinto and Simão Costa (MãoSimMão) and presented for the first time in Greece with the support of Perform Europe 2025.

The work is a groundbreaking dance concert designed for deaf and hearing audiences, where sound transcends traditional listening.

Through the innovative Tactile Listening Board, sound becomes vibration and light, allowing audiences to experience the performance through the entire body.

The project unfolded in Athens as a two-day artistic experience including:

Two performances of SYN.Tropia
A post-performance discussion moderated by choreographer and dance educator Yiota Peklari, with Greek Sign Language interpretation provided by Hands Up Agency
A participatory workshop, also with GSL interpretation, where participants explored the sonic and choreographic materials of the work

Performance Programme

The festival programme at Technopolis City of Athens featured works that examined transformation through the body, perception and collective experience.

Highlights included:

μπ(λ)αλούνA multisensory dance work by Yiota Peklari and Vasia Zormpali, bringing together performers and audiences — sighted and visually impaired, hearing and deaf — in a shared perceptual space.

KOMMAA performance by Eugenia Brakoumatsou and Lena Trikouki exploring the mother–daughter relationship through movement and symbolic imagery.

Watcher of the SkiesA choreography by Ioanna Ntourou inspired by the astrophysical phenomenon of gravitational microlensing, merging science, dance and interactive audience experience.

EclypsisA contemporary dance duet by Christos Tzovaras and Maria Kasidokosta, reflecting on fragility and connection through the philosophy of Kintsugi.

The programme also included workshops and participatory experiences such as Eva Manaridou’s Natural Dye Workshop, exploring sustainable practices in textile creation.

Art of Transformation Exhibition

At OpenArtLink | Piraeus Project, BRAINSHOT presented the curated exhibition Art of Transformation, bringing together more than 40 artists working across painting, photography, collage, mixed media, installations, video art and digital media.

Curated by Elisavet Latsiou, the exhibition examined transformation through diverse artistic perspectives and included artists from Greece and the international contemporary art scene.

Clothing Mountain – A Collective Upcycling Experience

One of the most symbolic actions of the festival was Clothing Mountain, a participatory upcycling performance conceived and produced by BRAINSHOT.

A mountain of discarded garments was transformed into a collective canvas as participants dyed fabrics using natural pigments derived from plants, roots and spices.

Sound artist Dimitra Koustiridou simultaneously created a live electronic composition using contact microphones, transforming the sounds of the process into an immersive soundscape.

The action embodied the festival’s philosophy: collective creation, sustainability and reimagining fashion beyond consumerism.

Inclusion, Accessibility and Collaboration

BRAINSHOT FESTIVAL: TRANSFORMATIONS placed accessibility, sustainability and participation at the centre of its programme.

Key actions included:

Performances featuring artists with and without disabilities
Greek Sign Language interpretation for selected activities
Multisensory and participatory artistic experiences
Collaborations with organisations such as Nevronas, We Are Community, Cyprus Organization for Education through the Arts and Open School Days

Art as a Space for Transformation

By hosting international productions like SYN.Tropia, supporting emerging artists and creating participatory experiences for diverse audiences, BRAINSHOT FESTIVAL: TRANSFORMATIONS 2025 created a space where art, community and sustainable creativity intersect.

The festival reaffirmed BRAINSHOT’s vision:

Art as common ground
Sustainability as creative practice
Collectivity as a driver for change
